FAQs

What is Somatic Breath work journey?

It is an hour long meditative session that uses the breathe to allow the body and mind to be present in the here and now. This breath work facilitates in the release of stress that has been suppressed and ultimately stored in the body or soma through expression.

What do you mean by expression?

Expression is a way to allow the emotions that are stuck in your body to move through you. It may be a physical, emotional, spiritual or mental process. There is no right or wrong experience. I encourage you to let go of expectations, allow yourself to feel what may surface up.

How does this journey work?

The session has 2 parts:

1- The first half will be focused on taking full deep inhales through the mouth letting it out through the mouth. What is important is not how fast you breathe but how deep, so find the rhythm that suits you. This part is usually intense.

2- The second half will be focused on having longer deeper exhales. So you breath in through the nose/ mouth (whatever is more comfortable) and exhale through the mouth. This part is  more gentle but it is just as important if not more important than the first half.

There are a few rounds of breath holds within the session.

Is there anything I should be aware of?

Throughout the session it is normal if you have a tingling sensation in your extremities or other parts of your body, this is your body readjusting to the changes in the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. If it becomes uncomfortable, you can simply adjust how you breathe.

What is your role in these sessions?

I will guide you through it and help dig a bit deeper by giving verbal cues, breathing sounds and assist in facilitating your breathing by touching your belly only if you consent to it.

Can I move my body or use my voice if I feel that I need to?

Yes! You are encouraged to do what you feel your body is asking you to do. These are forms of expressions and it can show up as moving or shaking a part of your body or adjusting your position. Same thing goes for using your voice, the expression coming through could be sighing, yelling, crying, laughing or singing.

What if I don’t have any expressions at all, do I still benefit from the session?

Yes! This journey is not only about releasing and expressing, it is about clearing space for what you need most and sometimes it’s just to be still, feel calm and relaxed.

Can I use the washroom or drink water in the middle of the session?

Yes, just let me know so I can assist you if need be

Should I wear something specific?

No, as long as it is comfortable and not constricting you in any way.

What happens after the session?

There will be time for you to journal and reflect and imbruing up anything you would like to talk or ask about.
